Bank of America presents:
Jack Barrett: A Soul's Journey
This exhibition celebrates the life and work of Jack Barrett, who passed away in February 2008. Jack attended Carnegie Institute and in 1954 graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. His diversified body of work included news features, illustration, sports cartoons, political caricatures, show business portraits, and humorous art, as well as "serious" paintings. Barrett's style ranged as widely as his subjects, from meticulous representationalism to free expressionism.
In 1989, he retired after 20 years as illustrator for the
St. Petersburg Times. "What art is about," Barrett stated, "is to record a likeness or a gesture in a dramatic spontaneous moment." He exhibited his work in many fine art galleries and museums throughout Florida, the U.S., and Canada.
