Glass Blowing 101 — Introduction to Glass Blowing**

This is the perfect entry-level class for anyone interested in learning the basics of working with this amazing material. The class will cover paperweight making and basic blowing techniques, tempered with a heavy dose of safety and proper shop etiquette. Optional glass colored frits will be available in measured baggies for $10 per bag. No prior experience is necessary and everyone will make a project to keep at each session.

Materials fee for color payable at time of class.

Glass Blowing 102 — Be a Better Glassblower**

This class is for those who have some experience and wish to get back in there and be a better glass blower. We will start with an individual assessment of skill levels and progress accordingly. We will focus on hand skills, bubble set up and development of larger scaled pieces. We will also cover applied bits, handles, lip wraps, and feet. I will depend on the class to help with coarse development. Materials fee for color payable at time of class. Optional glass colored frits will be available in measured baggies for $10 per bag.

Make Your Own Paperweight Workshop**

This is a great first time, one-day glass experience! You will get an overview of how to safely work with hot glass and a demonstration of paperweight making. With the instructor's guidance, you will color and shape your own paperweight. Every paperweight is unique and exciting! Its a great stocking stuffer.No experience necessary. Materials and color included. After everyone takes their turn, and as time permits, you are welcome to make an extra paperweight for a materials fee of $40 per paperweight.

Hot Glass Sand Casting Experience**

This will be a fast paced one-day overview of sculptural casting the molten media. We will use various mold materials including metal molds, graphite, cast aluminum and rigid sand and soft sand. Each student will bring personal objects to make impressions into the sand that will be cast in glass to make your own unique cast glass work of art. No experience necessary.

Materials fee for color and larger castings payable at time of class at the following rates: $5/pound additional materials, $10/unit colored frits and powders.

Make your Own Blown Glass Ornament**

Just in time for the holiday season! You will get an overview of how to safely work with hot glass and demonstrations of ornament making. Then with the assistance of an experienced glass blower, you will develop your own coloradn pattern, and blow an ornament with your own breath! A glass hook is added to finish a unique artwork of your own design. No experience necessary. Materials and color included.After everyone takes their turn, you are welcome to make an extra ornament for a materials fee of $25 per ornament.

Blown Glass PUMPKIN Making Workshop**

Just in time for Halloween! You will get an overview of how to safely work with hot glass and a demonstration blowing a glass pumpkin. Working with an experienced glass blower you will gather the molten material, apply color, use an optic mold, and blow your gourd with your own breath! You will get to create your glass pumpkin in colors of your choice - complete with a stem! No experience necessary. Materials and color included. After everyone takes their turn, and time permiting, you are welcome to make an extra pumpkin for a materials fee of $50 per pumpkin.

Beginning Glass Beads

Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 20, 10am to 4pm

Students interested in glass beads will have a 2-day workshop using Hot Head torch and Mapp gas. All necessary tools will be loaned for class use. Students will be taught fundamental concepts which include safety, melting and applying glass to a mandrel, pulling stringers for dots and making round beads. Beads from day 1 will be annealed over night and returned on the 2nd day. We will discuss how to use these beads. Additional beads will be made on day 2 which will be annealed following the class and arrangements will be made to return them to the students through the Arts Center or by mail. Students must bring 1 tank of Mapp gas (available from Lowe's, Home Depot or Wal-Mart; approximately $7 - $8). You may need a 2nd tank for the second day. Please bring lunch for both days.

Advanced Glass Beads: Wheels

Student must be capable of safely and efficiently making glass beads using a torch and Mapp gas. The class will expand the basic knowledge to include wheels, dots and inside-out beads. Beads will be annealed by the instructor only for students who have no access to such a kiln. Beads will be returned to students through the Arts Center or by mail.A fiber blanket will be provided by the instructor for class use. Please bring your lunch for both days.
