Working off a toned background, students concentrate on creating the shapes and patterns of light and dark. This helps the student avoid some of the common pitfalls of drawing, especially when drawing the figure or the head. Model Fee: $45 Tuition: $115 members, $145 nonmembers 149 Expressive Interpretation of the FigureRebecca SkeltonMonday, 7pm to 9:30pmSummer 2 • Levels 2-5Deliberately explore the figure as a means of expression. Use different techniques and media for different effects. Each week we will explore communication different emotions. Collage and Surrealist techniques may help discover inner reactions to pose and composition. Project emotions onto the models as well as try to read and interpret emotional signals from the pose. Tuition: $115 members, $145 nonmembers 130 Drawing FundamentalsKyu YamamotoWednesday, 9am to 12pmSummer 2 • Levels 1-5What is drawing? Drawing provides a foundation for art. Explore the need for drawing before creating. Observe and understand the objects you draw, with a focus on how to look at an object: what you draw, not how to draw. Learn the basic elements of drawing: tone, lines, shape, perspective, movement, and positive and negative space. Through a variety of progressive exercises, students will better understand the fundamentals of drawing various objects. Tuition: $115 members, $145 nonmembers ** This course will only be running for 5 weeks.180 Basic DrawingJoseph WeinzettleThursday, 7pm to 9:30pmSummer 1 • Levels 1-3Students will explore traditional drawing techniques as they learn the basic elements of drawing: line, tone, form and space. Working from direct observation is emphasized. Various still life objects--fruit, bottles, blocks, plaster casts and drapery will be used to give students a full range of subject matter to explore. Repetitions and practice will help students to improve their drawing skills. The historical background of drawing techniques will be discussed along with slide presentations to introduce students to drawing techniques of various cultures and individual artists. Vine (or willow) charcoal and an 18 x 24” medium weight drawing pad are required for the first class. Tuition: $115 members, $145 nonmembers 102 Intermediate DrawingJoseph WeinzettleThursday, 7pm to 9:30pmSummer 2 • Levels 2-5This course is a step more challenging than Basic Drawing, but beginners are welcome. Lessons work gradually from basic to complex forms; from simple to more intricate compositions. Students will explore a range of styles and drawing methods learning through instructor demonstrations. Historical and natural drawing materials are emphasized, providing students a solid foundation in drawing tradition. Drawing materials include wood, mineral, feather quills and brush. Natural red chalks and quills will be fashioned by hand, giving students unique and personal drawing tools. Red chalk and quills will be provided. Vine (or willow) charcoal and an 18 x 24” medium weight drawing pad are required for the first class. Tuition: $115 members, $145 nonmembers
